Next month will mark 10 years since Warner Bros. Animation brought Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s Batman: Year One to life as an animated feature. And the studio will soon be celebrating this milestone by applying a fresh coat of digital paint. This fall, WB (via ComicBook.com) is releasing a special 10th anniversary edition that remasters the film in 4K Ultra HD.
Adapting one of the most beloved Batman stories of all time was no easy feat. Regardless, many fans would agree that the filmmakers did a commendable job. The movie premiered at San Diego Comic-Con in the summer of 2011 and was released on home media in October of that year. It also featured an all-star voice cast led by Ben McKenzie and Bryan Cranston as Batman and Jim Gordon, respectively.
The new edition of the film also contains all the bonus features that were previously available on the original version. That includes a featurette that explores Miller’s approach to the Batman mythos and another that traces Year One’s influence on several DC creators. Fans can also listen to audio commentary with some of the filmmakers and even revisit the DC Showcase – Catwoman short that had Eliza Dushku reprise her Year One voice role as Selina Kyle.

Viewers can also look forward to the addition of a brand new featurette titled “Reinventing Gordon,” which examines the history of Gotham’s police commissioner throughout all forms of media. The disc also contains “DC Universe Movies Flashbacks” that preview more recent WB Animation projects, including Batman: Soul of the Dragon and both installments of Batman: The Long Halloween.
Batman: Year One will arrive on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack and Digital on November 9.
