Warner Bros. and Legendary Announce Dune: Part Two For a 2023 Release

Warner Bros. and Legendary Announce Dune: Part Two For 2023

Last weekend, Dune had an unexpectedly strong box office debut with a $41 million opening. This was also impressive because the film is available simultaneously on HBO Max for no additional charge. Now, the immediate future of the franchise is secure. Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment have officially announced Dune: Part Two. It will hit theaters on October 20, 2023.

Legendary shared the news on Twitter, and thanked the fans for coming out to see the first installment.

Unsurprisingly, Denis Villeneuve will be back to produce, co-write, and direct the sequel. Additionally, Deadline is reporting that Legendary insisted that the sequel will only be in theaters. Villeneuve was quite vocal about the potential adverse affects of moving Dune: Part One to HBO Max day and date with theaters. That won’t be the case this time.

Regardless, the October 2023 release date seems to imply that Part 2 will be filmed relatively soon. While Villeneuve likely has the script ready, lining up the returning cast members may prove to be more difficult, but far from impossible.
