Spider-Man: No Way Home will continue the trend of pairing up Tom Holland’s Peter Parker with a MCU mentor hero. In this case, it’s Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Stephen Strange. Peter and Doctor Strange briefly met and teamed up in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. However, No Way Home will be the first film to truly explore their relationship. Via Heroic Hollywood, Cumberbatch spoke with Empire Magazine about Doctor Strange’s dynamic with Peter.
“There’s a shade of the [Tony] Stark relationship,” said Cumberbatch. “It’s not as intimate to begin with. Because of how experienced a superhero he is, it’s a strange dynamic and it kind of shifts into something far more parental and corrective. And then it shifts again.”

From the initial trailer, we know that Strange is responsible for the spell that was meant to reestablish Peter’s secret identity. That spell also unleashes a handful of villains from Spidey’s cinematic past. So far, only Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus and Jamie Foxx’s Electro are confirmed. Regardless, rumors persist that others will appear. But for now, those rumors remain unconfirmed.
Zendaya also stars in the film as MJ, alongside Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Marisa Tomei as May Parker, J. B. Smoove as Julius Dell, and Benedict Wong as Wong.
Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters on December 17.
