Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Will Halt Filming Until Letitia Wright Recovers

In late August, a Marvel Studios spokesperson acknowledged that “Letitia Wright sustained minor injuries today while filming a stunt for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” At the time, Marvel appeared to indicate that this wouldn’t affect the film’s production. However, Wright’s “minor injuries” are now going to cause the Black Panther sequel to go on hiatus. Letitia Wright recovers. 

Via The Hollywood Reporter, Wakanda Forever will halt production “due to the severity of the injury sustained by star Letitia Wright.” It also notes that “director Ryan Coogler is said to have shot all footage that his crew is able to without filming Wright’s scenes.” Production was able to continue following for two months following Wright’s injury. The shutdown will begin Thanksgiving week, and filming will likely resume in early 2022.

Additionally, THR’s report confirms that Wright’s Shuri “was elevated as the lead of the sequel” following Chadwick Boseman’s death in 2020.

Neither Marvel nor Wright have disclosed the extent of her injury. We only know that it involved “a stunt rig on-location in Boston.”

A spokesperson for Wright told THR that she is still in London during her recovery.

“Letitia has been recovering in London since September from injuries sustained on the set of Black Panther 2 and is looking forward to returning to work early 2022. Letitia kindly asks that you keep her in your prayers.”

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will hit theaters on November 11, 2022.
