Spider-Man: No Way Home is the last solo film covered by Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ current deal to share custody of Spidey. However, producer Amy Pascal went out of her way to announce a new trilogy of MCU Spider-Man movies earlier this week. She also indicated that Tom Holland would be back as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. That was a surprise, since Holland has said that his contract was up after No Way Home and that he didn’t want to play the role when he was in his ’30s. Note that Holland is 25 now, but he’s already headlined Spidey films and guest-starred in three others within the last five years. Tom Holland reacts.
During an appearance on the French talk show, Quotidien, Holland addressed Pascal’s comments and the subsequent hype they generated.
“Listen, all I’ll say is we have some very, very exciting things to be talking about,” said Holland. “I don’t know what those things are or what they will transpire to mean. But it looks like it’s an incredibly bright future ahead, and as I’ve said before, Spider-Man will forever live in me.”

Regardless of Pascal’s remarks, THR is reporting that “there are no official plans for a trilogy at this phase.” And Pascal does have a history of speaking out of turn. As an example, Pascal’s comments about Venom‘s relationship to the MCU led to Marvel’s Kevin Feige becoming a meme when he reacted to her. So a new Spider-Man trilogy is far from certain at the moment.
That said, neither Sony nor Marvel is blind to the response that No Way Home has received. Advanced ticket sales have crashed several sites, and the sequel is already poised to be one of this year’s biggest hits. Continuing this collaboration is in the best interest of both Sony and Marvel.
Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters on December 17.
