New sequel, new Grindelwald. The most evil wizard in Harry Potter lore has had a different actor each movie so far, and this time he’s Mads Mikkelsen. And frankly, perhaps given the actor’s history of villainy, he’s the most evil-looking yet. It’s easier to see how Jude Law’s Albus Dumbledore got seduced by Colin Farrell or Johnny Depp.

That’s Richard Coyle as Aberforth Dumbledore, Albus’ innkeeper brother. And yes, that is Hogwarts in all its glory, full of familiar throwbacks. Clearly, the filmmakers hope that the beloved school of wizardry should bring back more fans than the unfamiliar locations in the prior Fantastic Beasts films. As for Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler) getting his own wand? That can only mean trouble, unless he has a secret heritage we’ve yet to hear about.
And is that the origin of the Room of Requirement? This installment definitely wants to hit as many callbacks to the beloved originals as possible. Will it work? That decision, fans, will be for you to decide.
