The Batman’s New Motion Poster Offers an Important Piece of Advice

With 2022 just over the hill, Warner Bros. is starting to accelerate The Batman’s marketing campaign. Now, director Matt Reeves has released a new motion poster that finds the Dark Knight striking a familiar pose.

Apparently, it isn’t a Batman movie if the Caped Crusader isn’t shown brooding on a rooftop in the pouring rain. And that’s exactly what he does in this latest poster, which, like much of The Batman’s other key art, comes bathed in a red light. As the face of Robert Pattinson’s masked hero fills the screen, we can hear police sirens wailing in the distance over the loud patter of raindrops. His face is also outlined with a question mark as Michael Giacchino’s new theme music builds to a crescendo.

Reeves’ caption also advises fans to “question everything,” hinting that Paul Dano’s Riddler will challenge Batman’s sanity when the film hits the big screen next year. We already know that Dano’s villain is targeting members of Gotham’s 1% on his violent crusade. And since that echelon includes Bruce Wayne, Batman will be fighting a war on two fronts.

Here’s the official synopsis from Warner Bros. Pictures:

“Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman, striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies—Alfred Pennyworth, Lt. James Gordon—amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.

“When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman, Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin, Carmine Falcone, and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler. As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.”

The Batman hits theaters on March 4, 2022.
