Leslie Grace Confirms Michael Keaton is In Batgirl

Yesterday brought word that in addition to next year’s The Flash, Michael Keaton will also reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman in HBO Max’s upcoming Batgirl movie. Now, Barbara Gordon herself has made it official. Responding to a tweet from The Hollywood Reporter, Batgirl star Leslie Grace welcomed Keaton aboard with a cheeky post of her own. Check out what she had to say below: Leslie Grace confirms

News of Keaton’s involvement was celebrated on social media yesterday. That’s not surprising, given how much love fans still have for Tim Burton’s Batman movies. However, the announcement also raised a few eyebrows. Keaton’s appearance in The Flash boils down to Barry Allen’s journey across alternate realities. And since we haven’t heard anything about Batgirl tampering with the multiverse, it’s not as clear how Keaton’s version of the Dark Knight will factor into the story. J.K. Simmons’ return as Commissioner Gordon would seemingly rule out a continuation of the Burton-verse. In any case, Christina Hodson wrote the scripts for both The Flash and Batgirl, so perhaps the films share a deeper connection than we previously thought.

Batgirl is one of several movies that DC is developing for HBO Max. Regardless, a run at the big screen isn’t out of the question. Earlier this month, Warner Bros. moved the studio’s HBO Max-exclusive Blue Beetle film onto its 2023 theatrical slate. So it’s entirely possible that Batgirl could follow suit, especially with the extra star power afforded by Simmons and Keaton.

Warner Bros. and DC still haven’t set a release date for Batgirl, but it’s expected to arrive sometime in 2022.
