Alessandro Nivola Cast As the Villain in Kraven the Hunter Film

Sony’s Kraven the Hunter film has finally found its primary bad guy. Deadline is reporting that Alessandro Nivola has joined the film as its main villain. However, there are currently no details available about which character Nivola will portray. Presumably it will be someone from the Marvel characters controlled by Sony’s Spider-Man rights.

Nivola most recently appeared in The Sopranos prequel movie, The Many Saints of Newark, in a leading role as Dickie Moltisanti. However, genre fans may remember him best as Pollux Troy in Face/Off. He has also had roles in Jurassic Park 3, Laurel CanyonThe Art of Self Defense, A Most Violent Year, and  American Hustle.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is headlining Kraven as Sergei Kravinoff, a world famous hunter. In Marvel’s comic book universe, Kraven is also one of Spider-Man’s greatest foes. But since this is one of Sony’s non-MCU films, he likely won’t have a Spidey connection here.

West Side Story‘s Ariana DeBose recently signed on for Kraven as well. She is believed to be playing Calypso, a voodoo priestess who is occasionally Kraven’s lover in the comics. Additionally Fred Hechinger is rumored to be playing Kraven’s half-brother, Dmitri Smerdyakov, a.k.a. the Chameleon. Russell Crowe also has a role in the film, but details about his character have not been revealed.

Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk wrote the script for Kraven, which will be directed by J.C. Chandor.

Kraven the Hunter will hit theaters on January 13, 2023.
