Until a few months ago, it seemed like plans for a Masters of the Universe reboot had died on the vine. But that changed in January when word broke that Netflix had acquired the rights to the film from Sony, with Kyle Allen signing on as the new live-action He-Man. Amid all of these changes, Aaron and Adam Nee are still attached as the reboot’s directors and co-writers. Now, we have a better idea of what they have in mind for Prince Adam’s return to the big screen.
The brothers are currently making the rounds promoting their latest movie, The Lost City. And while speaking with Screen Rant, the briefly discussed their plans for Masters of the Universe. During the interview, the siblings professed their love for the franchise. But beyond this, they also hinted at what sort of tone fans can expect from the reboot.
“I think with Masters of the Universe, for us, from growing up with it, we just wanted to make something that captured that fun and color and bright and vibrant and the empowerment that it gave little kids,” explained Adam. “We just wanted to capture that. So that’s what we hope to have.”

The filmmakers also addressed the casting of Allen, who took over the starring role after Noah Centineo dropped out last year. But according to Aaron, Allen is the best possible choice to revisit He-Man’s beginnings.
“Yeah, and Kyle’s perfect for it because we also want to take a new audience on this adventure,” said Aaron. “So we’re treating it as an origin story, and Kyle, there’s not a more perfect person to come in and embody that.”
Netflix hasn’t announced a release date for Masters of the Universe.
