Our next visit to the Marvel multiverse is going to be shorter than we were expecting. The trailers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have made it look like one of the busiest MCU films in recent memory. Regardless, Marvel has formally quashed this line of thinking by confirming the movie’s official runtime. According to a new Fandango listing (via Collider), the long-awaited sequel is just two hours and six minutes. Doctor Strange 2’s official runtime.
The sequel’s runtime makes it roughly 10 minutes longer than the original Doctor Strange, which previously debuted in 2016. It will also be the leanest MCU feature since 2019’s Captain Marvel, which clocked in at just two hours and four minutes. Spider-Man: Far From Home wasn’t much longer at 129 minutes later that year. However, all Phase Four films have hovered around 130 minutes or more. In fact, Eternals and Spider-Man: No Way Home both ended up passing the two-and-a-half hour mark.

The sequel has a lot of ground to cover in just over two hours. And given its visits to other dimensions, the introduction of a new superhero in Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez, and a possible appearance by the Illuminati, that’s not going to be easy. But this latest news indicates that Sam Raimi learned from his mistakes on Spider-Man 3, which got criticized for its bloated runtime in 2007. Incidentally, one of the editors working on Multiverse of Madness is Bob Murawski, who edited (or co-edited) all three films in Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will hit theaters on May 6. Tickets for the film go on sale tomorrow at 9am.
