Susan Sarandon Cast as Victoria Kord in DC’s Blue Beetle Movie

A few weeks ago, word broke that Sharon Stone was a lock to play the main villain in DC’s Blue Beetle movie. But it appears that talks between Stone and Warner Bros. reached a breaking point, because the studio has now closed a deal with another actress to fill this role. According to The Wrap, Susan Sarandon has signed on to play Victoria Kord in the upcoming film.

Victoria Kord is a new character created specifically for the movie. Regardless, her name hints at a relation to Ted Kord, the second Blue Beetle in DC’s comic book universe, and Deadline’s previous report announcing Stone’s involvement claimed that Victoria is (or was) Ted’s wife. It’s still not clear if Ted himself will have a role in the film. Either way, he won’t be the headliner. That honor instead falls to Jaime Reyes, the third Blue Beetle who will be portrayed by Xolo Maridueña.

Sarandon’s acting career dates all the way back to the ’70s and includes memorable turns in Thelma & Louise, The Client, and an Oscar-winning performance in Dead Man Walking. More recently, she has shown up in indie films like Ride the Eagle and also had a recurring role on Showtime’s Ray Donovan. Last year, Sarandon appeared in her first superhero project as the voice of an older Natasha Romanoff in Marvel’s Wastelanders: Black Widow podcast series.
