New Doctor Strange 2 TV Spot Teases the Arrival of [Spoiler]

It’s true what they say—tampering with space-time really does come with a steep price. Throughout the marketing campaign for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Marvel has hinted that Stephen Strange’s reality-warping is about to land him in hot water with some very powerful people, including (possibly) the Illuminati. But it doesn’t get much bigger than the closest thing that the Marvel Universe has to an actual God. A new promo for the film has made its way online, and it seems to feature an appearance by the Living Tribunal. Doctor Strange 2 TV spot.

In the comics, the Living Tribunal is as old as time itself, and responsible for keeping the multiverse safe from imbalances of good and evil. The upcoming sequel would be a prime spot to bring the character into the MCU. One of the Living Tribunal’s three stone faces appears to show up at the nine-second mark of the TV spot. His head is also covered by a hood like his comic book counterpart.

The Living Tribunal’s live-action debut has actually been a long time coming. Marvel previously flirted with introducing the character in Avengers: Infinity War in 2018. According to screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, an earlier draft of their script had the Tribunal judging Thanos for all the crimes he committed throughout the universe. However, this scene didn’t make the film’s theatrical cut. The original Doctor Strange film also featured a scene where Karl Mordo uses a weapon known as the Staff of the Living Tribunal during a training session with Stephen Strange.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will hit theaters on May 6.
