Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 officially wrapped filming over a month ago. Regardless, new casting announcements continue to trickle out. Deadline is now reporting that Nico Santos will also appear in the long-awaited sequel alongside other newcomers like Maria Bakalova and Daniela Melchior.
Santos is best known for his supporting role in 2018’s Crazy Rich Asians. He was also part of the main cast of Superstore, which ended its six-season run on NBC last year. Some of his other recent credits include voice roles in Netflix’s Wish Dragon and HBO Max’s The Prince.
Writer and director James Gunn announced the end of production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on May 6, almost one year to the day before the movie hits the big screen next year. Deadline also broke the news about Balakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm) and Melchior (Gunn’s The Suicide Squad) joining the sequel’s cast in the weeks that followed. However, the identities of their characters remain a mystery for now. Chukwudi Iwuji, who recently showed up in Gunn’s Peacemaker series, will make his MCU debut in the film as well. But the biggest new addition to the Guardians fold is Will Poulter, who will star as Adam Warlock in the sequel.

Arriving in theaters exactly six years after their last standalone film, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will reunite Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, and Pom Klementieff as the franchise’s headliners. Unfortunately, its premiere will be bittersweet. Gunn has confirmed on more than one occasion that Vol. 3 marks the last time that fans will see all of these characters onscreen together, essentially hinting that not everyone will make it to the end of their next journey. As for what the future holds for the surviving heroes, we’ll just have to wait and see.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will open on May 5, 2023.
