Dune: Part Two Adds Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot

The cast of Dune: Part Two has added another new face to its ranks before filming begins later this year. According to Deadline, Léa Seydoux has joined the cast of the highly-anticipated sequel as Lady Margot Fenring, a member of the Bene Gesserit in Frank Herbet’s original novel.

In Herbert’s book, Lady Margot was introduced as the wife of Count Hasimir Fenring, a friend and advisor to Emperor Shaddam IV who also served as the Governor of Arrakis when the planet was given to House Atreides. Margot also used a coded message to warn Lady Jessica of the plot against her family. But since this treachery was already depicted in Dune: Part One, fans didn’t see this happen onscreen. Later on in the novel, the Bene Gesserit give Margot a mission involving Baron Vladimir Harkonnen’s nephew, Feyd-Rautha.

The sequel will mark the first time that Lady Margot has appeared in an adaptation of Dune. Both Fenrings were completely left out of David Lynch’s original 1984 film. However, in the 2000 miniseries Frank Herbert’s Dune, only Count Hasimir made the cut, with Princess Irulan absorbing several of his wife’s actions as a result.

Seydoux most recently appeared in David Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future and also reprised her James Bond role as Madeleine Swann in No Time to Die. Her next film, One Fine Morning, premiered at Cannes last month. Some of Seydoux’s other credits include The French Dispatch, Blue is the Warmest Colour, and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

Other new additions to the Dune cast include Florence Pugh as Irulan, Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha, and Christopher Walken as Shaddam IV. Denis Villeneuve is returning to direct Part Two from a script he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts. Production will reportedly start sometime this fall.

Dune: Part Two will hit theaters on October 20, 2023.
