Rooster Teeth’s signature anime series, RWBY, is teaming up with DC’s Justice League for a new animated movie. Via Variety, RWBY x Justice League was announced during the RWBY panel at RTX Austin. Rooster Teeth will produce the film in collaboration with Warner Bros. Animation.
Regular readers of this site are already well aware of who the Justice League members are. But some explanation is needed for RWBY. It’s an anime series set in an alternate fantasy world called Remnant, which is plagued by horrific monsters known as Grimm. The leading characters of the show are Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long. Collectively, they are known as Team RWBY, and they in training at the Beacon Academy to become the next generation of monster hunters.
The worlds of RWBY and DC have collided once before. Last year, DC published a RWBY x Justice League comic book miniseries by writer Marguerite Bennett and artists Aneke, Stephanie Pepper, and Emanuela Lupacchin. That story introduced Justice League variants who were native to Remnant. Essentially, they were alternate versions of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, and Green Lantern/Jessica Cruz.

However, the new movie will not be reusing the same story from the comic book miniseries. That said, it was mentioned that the story will still take place on Remnant. This suggests that the alternate Justice League will appear, instead of their more traditional depiction.
This isn’t the first time Warner Bros. Animation has taken a comic book crossover and used it as a basis for a film. The 2019 release, Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, was a loose adaptation of the original Batman/TMNT crossover.
RWBY x Justice League will premiere in 2023. However, a specific release date was not made during the initial announcement at RTX.
