With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 now playing in theaters, fans have wondered if this truly marks the end of James Gunn’s time at Marvel. The director and DC Studios Co-CEO has given a definitive answer on the subject.
Is James Gunn only doing DC movies now?
A Twitter user asked Gunn if he’s now “completely done” with Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige, or if he plans on helping them from time to time. Gunn responded saying that though he talks with Feige and is close friends with the Marvel Studios president, he’s “strictly DC” now — other than Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
James Gunn isn’t just the Co-CEO of DC Studios, but he’s also set to direct Superman: Legacy. Recently, the filmmaker recently made a bet with a fan involving the upcoming DC Universe Superman movie that could see them eating a shoe in a few years.
“Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas,” reads the movie’s official synopsis. “He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Superman: Legacy is set to premiere in theaters on July 11, 2025.
