Netflix has released the first official teaser trailer for its upcoming sci-fi superhero film Code 8 Part II.
Revealed as part of Netflix’s Geeked Week, the Code 8 Part II teaser trailer marks the return of Connor Reed and Garrett Kelton — played by cousins Robbie and Stephen Amell, respectively. The sequel to 2019’s Code 8 reunites the two Powers (i.e. superpowered individuals) for a begrudging team-up. The teaser concludes with Connor using his electrokinesis to fight off a duo of robotic police officers.

Code 8 director Jeff Chan returns to helm Part II, which is due to hit Netflix sometime next year. An official synopsis for the sequel reads as follows: “In a world where 4% of the population are born with abnormal powers and heavily policed by high-tech robotics, an ex-con teams up with the drug lord he despises to protect a young girl from a corrupt police sergeant.”
Netflix takes the reins on the Code 8 franchise
Based on Chan’s 2016 short film of the same name, the Elevation Pictures-distributed Code 8 premiered at the Sitges Film festival in October 2019. The film released nationwide in Canada two months later. It made its way to the United States via Netflix in April 2020. A sequel entered development in 2021, with the Amell cousins signing on to reprise their respective roles and Netflix picking up the global distribution rights.
The streaming giant certainly isn’t forgetting Code 8’s roots, however. The sequel’s teaser points out that “the fans made the first film possible.” This alludes to the fact that, after starring in Chan’s original short, the Amells launched a crowdfunding campaign to fun the feature-length version of Code 8. The campaign reached its goal of $200,000 in under 48 hours — and topped $1.5 million in one month.
Code 8 Part II premieres on Netflix in 2024.
