Marvel’s Inhumans have been around just as long as many of their other characters and yet they don’t appear as often in their monthly comic book series. That is all about to change. Marvel’s next big event, after next month’s Infinity, will be called “Inhumanity” and will see the Inhumans rising to power in the world once again.
After “Infinity” wraps up, the Terrigen Mists (which gave the Inhumans their powers) will be released into the world once again and will kickstart various powers within the ancestors of the original Inhumans. The principle story of the event will be told in a new series simply titled Inhuman from Hawkeye writer Matt Fraction.
“Our focus characters are drawn into the palace intrigue of this shattered Inhumans Royal family,” Fraction told EW. “It becomes a superhero story and a mythical story, all revolving around turning the world into a world full of superheroes.”
“It’s giving us a chance to get back to a classic Marvel metaphor of alienation. We’re telling science-fiction stories, but really it’s about race, gender, sexual equality. It’s a very relevant, pertinent metaphor.”
Said to be taking inspiration from Game of Thrones, the new series will see various factions of the Inhumans split off into their own groups and kingdoms and the entire Marvel Universe will get involved in the fallout of the event.
“There is a secret superhero kingdom, and you might belong there. What do you do? And what does Iron Man do? We’re turning the entire Marvel universe into a potential battlefield. And regular people are in the middle.”
