It’s sometimes a talking point for many superhero films that they’re kind of complicated in the plot department, and that isn’t limited just to the audience. In an interview with EW, actor Ian McKellen had this to say about the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past.
“I don’t always understand the plots of these films until I actually see them with an audience.”
Though he did offer up what he does understand about the plot of the film.
“It’s all about going into the past, basically,” said McKellen. “And so I don’t get to go into the past. I don’t think I’m spoiling it by saying that. But we are there in the beginning when the plot is hatched.”
McKellen also offered a comparison between his other most notable role, Gandalf from “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” films.
“The odd thing about a Gandalf is that he’s good through and through. Magneto is a bit of both. He’s well-intentioned, but he perhaps politically is not very sound, and I’m not sure that I quite agree with his tactics.”
Hitting theaters on May 23, 2014, the anticipated film also stars Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Halley Berry, Nicholas Hoult, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, Boo Boo Stewart, Adan Canto, Evan Peters, Josh Helman and Lucas Till.
McKellen will make his next big screen appearance in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which hits theaters on December 13.
