Marc Webb Teases The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Sinister Six

Warning: Huge/Mega/Major spoilers for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 below.

If you ventured out to see The Amazing Spider-Man 2 this weekend, you were no doubt left with a few questions, such as: “What was up with those Doctor Octopus and Vulture teasers?” and “Where do we go from here?”. While the announcement of the third and fourth “Amazing Spider-Man” films tells us that Sony is planning on keeping this franchise going for some time, director Marc Webb says they had to make sure that those super villain teasers weren’t present for nothing.

“I had to talk to Drew Goddard (The Sinister Six writer/director) and make sure these things were going to be played out in the future universe,” he said in an interview with Grantland. “There are some very specific plans, for example, for [Doc] Ock and for Vulture. Or the man in the hat at the end of the first movie. All those things emerge with varying degrees of emphasis.”

Now the “man in the hat” was confirmed in the film to be Gustav Fiers aka The Gentleman, a character responsible for putting together the infamous Sinister Six in a series of novels and it seems he’ll be taking on that responsibility for the film as well.

In addition to the cavalcade of villain Easter eggs, there’s also the matter of what happened in the climax of the film, that moment we’d all been expecting for some time: the death of Gwen Stacy. Now this leaves Peter Parker in a different mindset than we have seen him in this franchise, and given that Mary Jane was cut out of the final film, what are the odds we’ll be seeing the pair actually get together in the third movie?

“Will Peter Parker love again? When [relationships] end, it’s very difficult to imagine emerging from that,” Webb says. “I think that’s, emotionally, where he’s going to start off in the next movie.”

Well that’s not a “yes,” but it’s not a “no” either. Do you think Peter Parker should get together with Mary Jane in The Amazing Spider-Man 3 or should he be a loner?

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is now playing worldwide with The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is set for release on June 10, 2016.
