Marvel Studios’ next two feature films, Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers: Age of Ultron, will showcase two unlikely teams from their cinematic universe though they happen to be on opposite ends of space. With the mad titan Thanos lurking about in the background, whom many expect to take on the villain role in Avengers 3, will we ever see these two groups come together to stop a larger threat?
“Part of the fun of the comics is that could happen,” Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige tells IGN. “Any character could interact with any other character because they inhabit the same time period and the same universe. And certainly it is the inclusion of Thanos most specifically that is a declaration to audiences who are paying attention that this is connected to those other universes. Part of the fun is that it could happen someday. I don’t know when that would be. Or maybe I know and I’m not going to tell you!”
Feige was later asked about the character of Namor the Sub-Mariner. A few months ago it was rumored that Universal and Legendary were developing a big screen adaptation of the character, but Feige says that isn’t true as they partially own the rights, but it’s quite complicated.
“Let’s put it this way – there are entanglements that make it less easy. There are older contracts that still involve other parties that mean we need to work things out before we move forward on it. As opposed to an Iron Man or any of the Avengers or any of the other Marvel characters where we could just put them in.”
