Following it’s stellar weekend at the box office, Paramount Pictures announced that a sequel to their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot was already on the table and would be released June 3, 2016. The first film not only told the origin of the turtles but also brought in classic villain Shredder, so where do they go with the follow-up? Perhaps Dimension X, where fan favorite villain Krang hails from?
Speaking with Screen Rant, director Jonathan Liebesman and producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form revealed that not only are they eager to take the world of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to that kind of realm but that they’re already had discussions regarding it.
“I would love to,” Liebesman said about going to Dimension X. “I mean it’s not up to me. It’s up to all of us to decide.”
“But we’ve talked about those worlds already,” Fuller added.
“There are scripts that have been written for this movie that integrated those worlds into it already…” Form revealed.
Though Krang himself didn’t enter the TMNT mythology until the 1987 animated series, his species of aliens, the Utroms, debuted in just the third issue of Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird’s original comic book series. Krang was an alien warlord that more often than not used an exo suit to walk around. Often an ally of Shredder’s, Krang was a master inventor and tactician who very seldom actually fought against the turtles personally. Do you want to see Krang appear in the upcoming sequel?
Michael Bay will return to produce the upcoming sequel along with Form and Fuller. The movie will be written by returning screenwriters Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec.
