The Ant-Man Prequel Comic Reveals Peggy Carter Connection

We learned last fall that Hayley Atwell is set to make an appearance in Marvel Studios’ upcoming “Phase Two” capper, Ant-Man. Rumors at the time suggested that the Peyton Reed film will feature a flashback in which Hank Pym meets with the founding members of S.H.I.E.L.D. Today, Newsarama has posted several pages from Marvel’s official comic book tie-in prequel to the film, revealing a surprising working relationship between Pym and an older Peggy Carter. As you can see from the page below, Peggy appears to be training with Pym using a very similar method to the one she employed to test Steve Roger’s vibranium shield in Captain America: The First Avenger. Does this mean that Michael Douglas’ Pym will have extensive ties to S.H.I.E.L.D.? Only time will tell, but it’s certainly looking likely.

The comic itself, titled “Marvel’s Ant-Man Prelude,” is slated to run for two issues with Will Corona Pilgrim writing and Miguel Sepulveda providing the art. The official synopsis for the first issue reads as follows:

Before Scott Lang becomes Marvel’s shrinking sensation, Dr. Hank Pym will pull on the helmet and leap into action on a death-defying mission that will take him into the icy heart of Cold War East Berlin!

Ant-Man the film, meanwhile, follows con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) who, armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Also starring Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Abby Ryder Fortson, Judy Greer, David Dastmalchian, Wood Harris, John Slattery, Gregg Turkington and T.I., Ant-Man hits theaters on July 17, 2015.
