Akiva Goldsman to Lead G.I. Joe, Micronauts Writers Rooms, New Transformers 5 Writers Revealed

Paramount taps new Transformers 5 writers, sets up G.I. Joe and Micronauts writer’s rooms

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Paramount Pictures was set to double down on their efforts with the Transformers film franchise by creating a “writers room” specifically designed to come up with ideas for multi-part sequels as well as spin-off films. Academy Award winner Akiva Goldsman headed up the project, which included the likes of “The Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman, “Fringe” and “Lost” scribe Jeff Pinkner, X-Men: The Last Stand and The Incredible Hulk‘s Zak Penn, and “Daredevil” executive producer Steven DeKnight. As a result of their efforts, Paramount is planning Transformers 5 as well as an animated “origin story” film that will be set on the Transformers’ homeworld of Cybertron.

Now, Deadline reports that because of the success of the Transformers writers room, Paramount has tapped Goldsman to lead two more writers rooms, one for the G.I. Joe franchise and another for the in-development Micronauts film. Thus far, two “G.I. Joe” films have been released bringing in a combined $675 million at the global box office. It was previously reported that screenwriter Tom Wheeler had been tapped to write the script for Micronauts.

As a result of his leading these two writers rooms, Goldsman will no longer be scripting the upcoming Transformers 5 with writing duties now falling to Iron Man scribes Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down), three more of the Transformers writers room assemblage.

Paramount Pictures’ most recent entry in the Transformers franchise was 2014’s Transformers: Age of Extinction, which stars Mark Whalberg, Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor. It has not been confirmed as of yet if that talent will be returning for Transformers 5Age of Extinction grossed over $1.1 billion at the global box office with all four films combined grossing over $3.7 billion.
