Kevin Smith to Direct Episode of The Flash, Vixen Renewed and More from The CW’s TCA Panels

Kevin Smith will direct The Flash and more from The CW’s TCA tour

Today, it was The CW’s turn at the Television Critics Association winter 2016 tour and the network made a few announcements regarding their slate of DC programming.

First up was The Flash, which The CW president Mark Pedowitz confirmed will have an episode directed later this year by filmmaker and avowed comic book fanboy, Kevin Smith. There’s no word on what the content of Smith’s episode will contain but the episode will air in May.

In addition, Pedowitz confirmed that the animated series Vixen will return to CW Seed for a second season. It was previously revealed that the character, voiced by Megalyn Echikunwoke, will transition from the animated world to the live-action world of Arrow in an upcoming episode, and regarding that change Pedowitz said (via IGN):

“Hopefully that character can spin itself out or if not, join the Legends (of Tomorrow).”

Finally, and speaking of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, executive producer Greg Berlanti said that now that the series is off on its own two feet, it won’t do much crossing over with Arrow or The Flash.

“It’s intermittent throughout,” Berlanti said. “Because they’re a band of time traveling rogues, it’s harder for Arrow and Flash to be connected story wise to it throughout the season. That being said, if you know the histories of Arrow and Flash, it should be extra fun in its own way as we delve deeper and deeper into the characters lives.”

Despite that, executive producer Phil Klemmer tells EW that there is a “100% chance” that older or younger versions of Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen and Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen will appear in the series.

“We will have a couple marked crossover moments that hopefully will keep people satisfied,” Klemmer said.

The Flash will return to The CW on Tuesday January 19 at 8 PM while DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will premiere on Thursday January 21 in the same time slot.
