Despite three new wide releases, 20th Century Fox‘s Deadpool easily won first place at the box office for its third-straight weekend. The Tim Miller-directed comic book adaptation, starring Ryan Reynolds, added $31.5 million domestically to bring its three-week total to $285.6 million. Internationally, the $58-million budgeted film earned another $40 million for an overseas total of $324.2 million. That means the movie has now earned an impressive $610 million worldwide!
Deadpool, made for only $58 million, stars Ryan Reynolds as the title character alongside T.J. Miller as Weasel, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Morena Baccarin as Copycat, and Ed Skrein as Ajax. The film, directed by Tim Miller and written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, also features the mutant Colossus, voiced by Serbian actor Stefan Kapicic.
In its 11th weekend in theaters, Star Wars: The Force Awakens earned $3 million domestically and $1.6 million internationally for a global total of $4.6 million. The J.J. Abrams-directed film has now earned $926 million domestically and $1.122 billion internationally for a worldwide box office total of $2.048 billion. It is the #1 movie of all-time domestically, the fourth movie of all-time internationally, and the No. 3 movie of all-time worldwide.
