Variety reports that J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot (Westworld, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Overlord) will be producing director Julius Avery’s new superhero movie, The Heavy, for Paramount Pictures.
The Heavy was written by Daniel Casey (The Passage), and the details on the project are being kept under wraps. It was reported, however, that the movie is described as a subversive take on the superhero genre. Paramount is hoping to get production started this year.
The Heavy reunites Avery, Abrams, and Paramount after their latest endeavor, Overlord — a World War II zombie film that opens on October 26 — generated buzz at Paramount’s recent CinemaCon presentation. Avery is also known for his crime thriller and feature debut, Son of a Gun, which starred Ewan McGregor and Brenton Thwaites.
Abrams’ current projects include Westworld Season 2, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, and Hulu’s Castle Rock. The award-winning producer’s Bad Robot company is also in pre-production on Star Wars: Episode IX, the next Star Trek adventure, and episode one of TV series Lovecraft Country.
