Patty Jenkins Teases Plans For Wonder Woman 3

While audiences are still patiently waiting for the highly-anticipated Wonder Woman 1984, director Patty Jenkins is already considering the future for the Amazonian princess in the DC Extended Universe.

In an interview with Vanity Fair regarding her upcoming noir limited series I Am The Night starring Wonder Woman lead Chris Pine, Jenkins revealed that she has definitely started thinking about the third entry in Diana Prince’s story for the big screen.

“I have pretty clear plans for Wonder Woman 3,” Jenkins said. “Whether I [direct] it or not, I see how her arc should end in my incarnation of Wonder Woman. I have great passion for that.”

While the future of the DCEU is continually in debate and up in the air with multiple delays and directorial/star exits from key roles, it seems like a safe bet that the titular heroine would earn herself a third solo outing. The first Wonder Woman film earned the highest reviews of the DC Extended Universe, along with grossing over $820 million globally on a $150 million budget. Given the intense hype for the sequel, there is a strong chance it could outgross its predecessor, giving Warner Bros. plenty of faith in greenlighting a third entry.

Based on her comments, it appears that not only does Jenkins have a plot in mind, but that it could very well be the end of Diana’s solo outings, hinting that her story arc covers a trilogy of movies.

Set to open in theaters June 5, 2020, Wonder Woman 1984 is based on the character created by William Moulton Marston, appearing in comic books published by DC Entertainment. It will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
