Did you see any good movies this weekend? Judging by the unprecedented box office results, it seems like a safe guess that most of you saw Avengers: Endgame. Avengers: Endgame is the direct sequel to last year’s Avengers: Infinity War. That film left the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a dire situation as Thanos successfully assembled the Infinity Stones and snapped half of the universe’s population out of existence.

While Infinity War was loosely inspired by Infinity Gauntlet (by Jim Starlin, George Perez, and Ron Lim), directors Joe and Anthony Russo, along with screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, went their own way with Endgame. It’s not directly based on any particular comic book, but it heavily references the 21 previous MCU films.
Endgame features the original Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, and Jeremy Renner. Don Cheadle reprises his role as War Machine alongside Paul Rudd as Ant-Man. Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Karen Gillan and Bradley Cooper co-star as Nebula and Rocket, respectively. Brie Larson and Danai Gurira have supporting roles as Captain Marvel and Okoye. Josh Brolin also returns as Thanos.
