Sonic the Hedgehog Director Promises To Fix the Character Design

Sonic The Hedgehog will rush into theaters later this year. However, the early reactions to the first trailer didn’t bode well. As a result of the very negative response to Sonic’s anthropomorphic design, director Jeff Fowler felt the need to assure fans that there will be changes in the near future.

Sonic The Hedgehog is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.

The first Sonic The Hedgehog video game debuted in 1991 on the SEGA Genesis. More recently, the popular franchise also continued with two new releases in 2017: Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces.

Sonic The Hedgehog hits theaters on November 8.
