Spider-Man: Far From Home Trailer Gets Huge Views For Sony

(Warning: spoilers ahead for Avengers: Endgame!)

Earlier this week, Spider-Man: Far From Home’s latest trailer made its debut. It introduced some interesting new elements in the Marvel universe, most notably the idea of a “multiverse,” and it seems that fans are totally on board on that, based on the viewership record it recently set.

A report from Deadline indicates that the trailer has set a viewership record for Sony. It notes that it has seen 135.2 million views in its first 24 hours of release. That sets a new standard for Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Based on the stats, the latest trailer managed to beat out Far From Home’s debut trailer back in January. When that arrived, it received 130 million views. Close behind in third place was the launch trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming. It got 116 million views when it debuted back in 2017.

This means good news for Sony in the months ahead. After its trailers became quite popular with fans, Homecoming went on to gross $335 million domestic and $880 million worldwide. Far From Home could easily eclipse those numbers, based on what it’ll introduce in its post-Endgame world.

The trailer follows Peter Parker as he adjusts to life without Tony Stark, following his sacrifice in Endgame. He gets a visit from S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) during his vacation. From there, he gets whisked away to help out the agency, alongside otherworld visitor Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). That’s about all we know about the plot thus far, but its implications could set the stage for Marvel Studios’ Phase 4.

The question is what’ll happen to Sony and Marvel following the release of Far From Home. Could Spidey return for more films in the future? Will Sony spin its web in a different direction, ala Into the Spider-Verse? We’ll find out soon enough when Spidey’s second go-around debuts in theaters on July 2.
