Jon Favreau Addresses Iron Man’s MCU Future

Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Avengers: Endgame!

With everything that happened to Tony Stark/Iron Man in Avengers: Endgame, it really seems like his MCU run is over. Some fans can envision a future where Riri Williams or even Tony’s daughter, Morgan Stark, will take over the role. However, Jon Favreau doesn’t believe that they should get their hopes too high. The director of the first two Iron Man films, as well as the actor who plays Happy Hogan, recently spoke with Screen Rant about that possibility of Iron Man continuing on the big screen.

“We haven’t talked about (Iron Man) 4,” said Favreau. “I’ve talked to Kevin [Feige] about it to see what they’re up to, but we definitely love working together and we love these characters. So we talk about what it would be, and we always joke about the ‘Freak’ storyline, which is a Happy Hogan storyline when he turns into a Hulk-like character. We joke about that, though, no plans as of yet.”

The conclusion of Endgame does leave some possibilities out there. Although Tony Stark sacrificed himself to defeat Thanos, Morgan Stark could easily carry on his legacy. Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) even has her own Iron Man/Rescue armor, which she could use in the future.

At the moment, Favreau’s Happy Hogan will return in Spider-Man: Far From Home. He lends a hand with Peter Parker’s emotional recovery from Tony’s death.

Avengers: Endgame is out now, and Spider-Man: Far From Home opens on July 2.
