Much to the delight of fans the world over, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy previously revealed that the studio was “developing something to look at” based on the classic Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic video game. Now, Buzzfeed reports that screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis (Alita: Battle Angel) is writing the KOTOR screenplay for Lucasfilm.

According to the report, Lucasfilm has plans to develop the Star Wars story into a trilogy, and a script for the first has been nearly readied.

Knights of the Old Republic takes place almost 4000 years before the events of George Lucas’ original saga. BioWare released the successful video game in 2003. It tells the story of the Jedi Order standing against Darth Malak, who leads an uprising against the Republic.

After The Rise of Skywalker releases this Christmas, the next movie in the Star Wars franchise won’t arrive in theaters until December 2022. Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have already started working on it.
