Jumanji: Welcome To the Jungle Getting The Video Game Treatment This November

It’s funny how Jumanji keeps making its way across mediums. It started as a board game in a 1995 film, then made its way back to theaters in 2017 as a multiplayer video game. Now it’s actually getting its own real multiplayer video game with a 2019 film waiting in the wings. There’s just no stopping its momentum.

Today, Bandai Namco announced that it’s working on a video game version of Jumanji: Welcome To the Jungle. It’s an adaptation of the 2017 film of the same name, featuring characters based on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan. (Relax, players won’t actually get sucked into its world…or will they?)

In the game, fans will have an “adventure in laughter” as they work together in co-op style to look for treasure. Along the way, they’ll avoid marauders and exotic creatures.

A trailer for the game is below. Though it doesn’t feature any gameplay, it does give an idea of Jumanji’s art style. It looks like it uses similar character models to those from the film. No word yet if the actors will voice their characters.

The game will release November 15th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC. It will likely be at Bandai Namco’s booth next week during the Electronic Entertainment Expo showcase in Los Angeles, for those attending the show.

Jumanji: Welcome To the Jungle will likely serve as a lead-in for the forthcoming film sequel that hits theaters on December 13. The unnamed sequel recently finished up filming, and will feature all four returning actors. Also featured in the sequel are Danny DeVito, Danny Glover and Dania Ramirez. It’s unknown whether the game will feature elements from the sequel or will just focus on events from the first game.
