Game of Thrones Star Lena Headey Wanted a “Better Death”

It’s been nearly a month since that controversial grand finale wrapped up HBO’s epic drama Game of Thrones. During the eighth and last season of the show, many characters met their final fate, and Lena Headey’s Cersei Lannister was one of them. Now, the actress confessed in speaking with The Guardian that she had some of her own “gripes” about that Game of Thrones final season script.

“No, listen, I invested as a viewer and I have my favourite characters” she said. “And I’ve got a few of my own gripes. But I haven’t sat down drunkly with David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] yet.”

When they asked her what would she say once she had that drink, she answered: “I will say I wanted a better death.”

Then the actress revealed that she felt “gutted” about her character’s death, but the she conceded that no matter what they did, Benioff and Weiss couldn’t have pleased everyone.

“Obviously you dream of your death,” she added. “You could go in any way on that show. So I was kind of gutted. But I just think they couldn’t have pleased everyone. No matter what they did, I think there was going to be some big comedown from the climb.”

Cersei Lannister passed away during the penultimate episode of the Game of Thrones‘ eighth season. She and her brother-lover Jaime were crushed by falling masonry while they embraced each other. Many fans, though, would have liked a direct confront between Cersei and Daenarys Targaryen, or at least they would have liked to see Cersei directly pay for all her disgraceful actions.
