Dune Star Stellan Skarsgard Praises Director Denis Villeneuve’s Imagery

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune is one of the most-anticipated sci-fi movies of 2020. And fans aren’t the only ones hyped about this project. While speaking with ColliderDune star Stellan Skarsgard explained why he was so thrilled about working with Villeneuve.

“I’ve always wanted to work with him partly because he’s such a wonderful man, but also because he’s a brilliant director,” said Skarsgard. “It’s fun when you get one of those big sci-fi movies and you know it’s going to be directed by a true filmmaker. It’s not going to be directed by the studio. It seemed like they were giving him pretty free hands. And you have to, because his personal stamp on the film is paramount for the success of it.”

Skarsgard also went on to praise Villeneuve’s ability to bring Dune‘s alien worlds to life.

“What he’s really good at is creating this strange atmosphere with his imagery and this cinematic poetry that is his trademark and that will add so much richness to the pretty simple story,” noted Skarsgard.

Within the film, Skarsgard will play Baron Vladimir Harkonnen. The film is currently in post-production.

Dune follows Paul Atreides, a young man whose family assumes control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, jurisdiction over Arrakis is contested among competing noble families. But after the Atreides family is betrayed, Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s reign.

Timothee Chalamet stars in the film as Paul Atreides. Josh Brolin also stars alongside Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Dave Bautista, Javier Bardem, Stellan Skarsgard, and Charlotte Rampling.

Dune will hit theaters on November 20, 2020.
