Zoë Kravitz is Catwoman in Matt Reeves’ The Batman

The cast of Matt Reeves’ The Batman just got a little more purr-fect. Deadline brings word that Zoë Kravitz is about to follow in the footsteps (or shall we say paw prints?) of Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, Eartha Kitt, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Anne Hathaway. She’ll star as Selina Kyle, a.k.a. Catwoman, in Warner Brothers’ upcoming reboot.

Kravitz is no stranger to comic book roles. She appeared in X-Men: First Class as Angel Salvadore and also voiced Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Some of her other film roles include Dope, Mad Max: Fury Road, and the Divergent series. Since 2017, Kravitz has starred on HBO’s Big Little Lies as Bonnie Carlson. Next up, she’ll headline a TV remake of Nick Hornby’s High Fidelity.

This actually won’t be the first time that Kravitz has played Catwoman on film. She provided the character’s voice in The Lego Batman Movie in 2017. Her appearance in The Batman will mark the first time we’ve seen Selina Kyle in a live-action movie since Hathway put her own stamp on the character in The Dark Knight Rises in 2012. However, Camren Bicondova spent the last five years bringing her to life on the small screen on Fox’s Gotham.

Last month, it was reported that Jeffrey Wright and Jonah Hill were also in negotiations to join The Batman as Commissioner Gordon and an unspecified villain, respectively. Unfortunately, the studio has yet to make their casting official. So far, Kravitz and star Robert Pattinson are the only locks. Production on the film is slated to begin in the U.K. in January.

The Batman flies into theaters on June 25, 2021. What do you make of Zoë Kravitz playing Catwoman in the film? Tell us what you think in the comment section below!
