Every saga has an ending, and every ending has a final trailer to get fans excited for its release. With two months to go until Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters, Disney and Lucasfilm have revealed that the film’s last trailer will debut this Monday, October 21.
The trailer will have its world premiere on ESPN’s Monday Night Football, during halftime of the game between the New England Patriots and the New York Jets. Lucasfilm teased the trailer’s imminent arrival with a short clip featuring the sequel trilogy’s heroic trio (Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron) settling into the Millennium Falcon’s cockpit with Chewbacca and C-3PO. Premiering new Star Wars trailers during Monday Night Football has become a hallowed tradition for the franchise in recent years. Disney pulled similar marketing strategies for The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi in 2015 and 2017, respectively. And as with those trailer debuts, the final Rise of Skywalker preview will herald the start of advance ticket sales. Naturally, this tends to bring heavy amounts of traffic to online sellers. When tickets went on sale for the last two Star Wars installments, sites like Fandango suffered from delays and server crashes. Since the new film marks the Skywalker Saga’s final chapter, it’s hard to imagine why this time would be any different.
The Patriots-Jets game kicks off at 8:15pm EDT on ESPN. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opens on December 20.
