J.J. Abrams Says The Rise of Skywalker Will Reveal More Star Wars Origins

It may have taken some time to hear them, but fans soon will get the answers for all their Star Wars questions. The saga which began more than 40 years ago will reach its climax as soon as The Rise of Skywalker flies into theaters in December. Speaking with Vanity Fair, director J.J. Abrams says once more that the upcoming Star Wars movie is conclusive.

“We went into this movie very much in the mindset that this has to be conclusive,” he said. “It has to. You have to get some answers. You have to learn some things.”

This is not the first time Abrams mentioned this crucial aspect of the forthcoming movie, closing the doors for any future new trilogy. The director stressed also that this movie will give the fans additional insight into some of the Star Wars characters.

“Endings are very difficult because they need to take everything that’s come before, in this case eight films prior, and draw it to a close,” he said. “So I wanted to make sure in addition to the central story, the main character or characters, I wanted to make sure that you felt that when you were done with this film, you felt like you had some more insight into all of them. That was really important to us.”

Not just Rey, but also Finn will have his backstory explained. Some bold theories suggest that he may be Lando Calrissian’s son, but for now the former stormtrooper’s origins are still shrouded in mystery. Sure, explaining all the unsolved questions in the Star Wars universe until now is a Herculean task. But J.J. Abrams may actually be the right person to make this work.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20. Who do you think Finn’s parents are? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
