Report: The Leaked Star Wars Episode IX Script May Be Real

Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow was originally set to direct Star Wars Episode IX. However, he ultimately parted ways with Lucasfilm and stepped down. Lucasfilm quickly rehired J.J. Abrams to close out the trilogy and rewrite Trevorrow’s script. Now, Trevorrow’s original treatment has apparently surfaced and the details have been quickly spreading online. Instead of The Rise of Skywalker, Trevorrow’s movie was supposedly called Duel of the Fates; which evokes the signature track from John Williams’ soundtrack for The Phantom Menace.

Collider recently reported that the leaked Episode IX script is real, and The Playlist is also confirming its accuracy. Screenwriter Robert Meyer Burnett was the original source for the leak, and he spent hours on YouTube explaining how it differed from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. According to Burnett, the alternate opening crawl hints at the First Order spreading across the galaxy.

The script then details how Finn and Rose steal a Star Destroyer stocked with Imperial weapons. BB-8 is also along for the ride, and he even drives the Star Destroyer at one point.

One of the biggest changes is the way that Kylo Ren and Rey’s story plays out. Kylo was haunted by Luke Skywalker’s Force ghost and fought a vision of Darth Vader. Meanwhile, Rey failed to turn Kylo back to the light before training the next generation of Jedi. Her students includes “broom boy” from the conclusion of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Following Trevorrow’s departure, Abrams worked alongside writer Chris Terrio, and they completely revamped the script. But Trevorrow and his co-writer, Derek Connolly, still received story credits in the final film.
