The Batman has only been shooting for a few weeks. But today, Matt Reeves had a very special treat for fans. Via his official Twitter account, the reboot’s director posted a short video that gives us our very first glimpse at Robert Pattinson wearing the new Batsuit. You can check it out for yourself below.

The video, which Reeves describes as a camera test, shows Pattison slowly walking into frame as an ominous, piano and horn-driven score rises to a crescendo in the background. It’s not clear if The Batman composer Michael Giacchino provided the music for the clip. Regardless, it definitely succeeds in building up anticipation for the reveal. The first thing we see is Pattinson’s armored chestplate, also complete with an updated version of the famous bat logo. As this image fills the screen, the camera then rises to show a little bit of the new cowl. Unfortunately, it stops short of giving us a full look at the Dark Knight’s iconic pointy ears.

The clip only shows Pattinson from the waist up. Additionally, the red lighting makes it difficult to discern the costume’s actual color scheme. But it seems like Reeves and his crew (including costume designer Jacqueline Durran) based the suit’s armored appearance on the character’s Batman: Arkham Knight duds. It also looks as though they’ve designed the top of his cape to look like a popped collar, sort of like a vampire’s cloak.
The Batman will fly into theaters on June 25, 2021.
