Last week, Warner Bros. Pictures denied that there were any plans in place to release Wonder Woman 1984 direct-to-digital and avoid theaters. However, not even Wonder Woman herself can stand in the path of the novel coronavirus. Via Variety, Warner Bros. has moved Wonder Woman 1984 back from its June 5 release date. The new opening date is now Friday, August 14. Additionally, Warner Bros. also delayed In the Heights, Scoob, and James Wan’s Malignant. However, those films do not have new dates attached.
“When we greenlit ‘Wonder Woman 1984,’ it was with every intention to be viewed on the big screen,” said Warner Bros.’ Toby Emmerich in a statement. “[We] are excited to announce that Warner Bros. Pictures will be bringing the film to theatres on Aug. 14. We hope the world will be in a safer and healthier place by then.”
It’s worth noting that the summer’s other potential superhero blockbuster, Black Widow, is currently without a new release date. Warner Bros. is sticking its flag in the date originally held by Malignant.

Gal Gadot will reprise her role as Diana/Wonder Woman in the upcoming sequel. She will be reunited with Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor in the mid-80s, decades after his apparent death in the previous film. Pedro Pascal also stars in the film as Maxwell Lord, with Kristen Wiig as Barbara Minerva, the woman destined to become Cheetah.
Gadot also shared a new motion poster to celebrate the film’s new date.
