CBS All Access Debuts Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Opening Scene

The world premiere of Star Trek: Lower Decks is still two weeks away. However, CBS All Access has just shared a special treat for anyone eager to watch the show’s first episode. As part of the Star Trek Universe’s virtual panel at Comic-Con@Home, CBS All Access has made the series’ opening scene available to watch online.

Clocking in at less than two minutes, the scene doesn’t waste a lot of time establishing Lower Decks’ comedic tone. Although it kicks off with some dramatic narration from Ensign Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid), any notions of grandeur are dispelled when he reveals that his team’s area of expertise is “second contact,” which basically makes them glorified paper pushers. The clip also introduces viewers to Tawny Newsome’s Beckett Mariner, armed with Romulan whiskey and a Klingon battle axe. Not surprisingly, this turns out to be a pretty simple recipe for disaster.

CBS All Access began developing Lower Decks almost two years ago, but the marketing push for the show started earlier this month. The series comes from Rick and Morty’s Mike McMahan and stars a ragtag band of support crew members on one of Starfleet’s less popular vessels. The show’s first season will consist of 10 episodes.

Star Trek: Lower Decks arrives on CBS All Access on August 6. You can watch the series’ opening scene below, then tell us what you think in the comment section!
