Eternals Director Wants to Go Bigger Than Avengers: Endgame

Fans will have to wait for a little longer than expected to watch Marvel’s Eternals as the movie was pushed back from its November 2020 release date. But it may be worth the wait, as Eternals director Chloe Zhao teases a bright future for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a recent feature for THR, Zhao talked about the manga influence that she brought in the upcoming movie.

“I have such deep, strong, manga roots,” says Zhao. “I brought some of that into Eternals. And I look forward to pushing more of that marriage of East and West.”

The director went on to add that her movie will have the fans’ minds blown by pushing the story even further than Avengers: Endgame. It covers the history of humanity in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“How much further and bigger can we go after Endgame?” said Zhao. “Because I’m not just making the film as a director. I’m making the film as a fan.”

The same article featured a few lines from Marvel Studios’ kingpin Kevin Feige, who praised the vision Zhao is bringing in the MCU.

“Her initial pitch to us was fascinating,” Feige said. “And frankly one of the reasons we moved forward on the movie was because of the vision that she brought to it.”

Feige also quickly mentioned the first LGBTQ relationship in an MCU film that will happen in Eternals. He said that it is “extremely well done” and also hoped that it would be “less of a topic” in future MCU films.

Marvel’s Eternals will hit theaters on February 12, 2021, barring further delays.
