Square Enix Delays Marvel’s Avengers’ PS5 and Xbox Series X To 2021

The next generation in video gaming begins next month with the arrival of the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X. Unfortunately, anyone upgrading their system will have to wait a bit longer to experience Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ latest adventure with enhanced graphics. Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have announced that they are postponing the release of Marvel’s Avengers on PS5 and Series X to 2021.

Square Enix shared this news in a lengthy statement posted to the game’s official website. Apparently, they want to “ensure that we give our team the time to deliver a next-gen experience showcasing all that this game is meant to be.” Additionally, the highly-anticipated Kate Bishop DLC is getting pushed back to a later date as well.

The studios previously announced that Marvel’s Avengers would be available on next-gen consoles as a free upgrade to anyone who already purchased the game for PS4 or Xbox One. Crystal Dynamics’ Gary Snethen also explained that the new version boasts a frame rate of 60 fps. It also reportedly shaves load times down to no more than two seconds.

Ever since it debuted last month, Marvel’s Avengers has earned mostly positive reviews. Critics have praised the writing and combat mechanics. However, others have taken aim at a few technical issues plaguing the game. Some of these were fixed in a patch that was released yesterday. The patch also added a new S.H.I.E.L.D. outpost along with new Tachyon Rift missions.

Marvel’s Avengers is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, Stadia, and PC.
