Just a day after premiering its third season on CBS All Access, Star Trek: Discovery is officially coming back for yet another round of cosmic adventures. The streaming service has confirmed that its flagship Star Trek series has been renewed for a fourth season.
The show’s cast and crew, including Sonequa Martin-Green (Michael Burnham), Doug Jones (Saru), and co-showrunners Michelle Paradise and Alex Kurtzman, announced the renewal in a new video. They also revealed that filming for the new season is set to begin on November 2. Both Martin-Green and Jones shared their excitement to get back to work on the series. But because the world is still facing a pandemic, it will be under different circumstances than usual.
“I am looking forward to the one thing I always look most forward to when we get to come back for another season of Star Trek: Discovery,” said Jones. “And that is to be reunited with my family again. The Trek family, the Discovery family. To be able to at least be in the same room again, even if we can’t hug each other right away. I don’t know how it’s all gonna work, but I can’t wait.”

By the time season 4 premieres, CBS All Access will have already re-branded itself as Paramount+. The streamer is also currently developing another season of Star Trek: Picard, with Patrick Stewart. Kurtzman also recently teased that the small-screen Star Trek universe is about to get a lot bigger. New shows are reportedly planned all the way through 2027.
The next episode of Star Trek: Discovery season 3 premieres on CBS All Access next Thursday, October 22.
