Jon Watts Will Direct Marvel’s Fantastic Four Reboot Film

Disney’s acquisition of Fox’s entertainment assets meant it was only a matter of time before the Fantastic Four and the X-Men entered the MCU. While Marvel’s mutants will have to wait a bit longer, Marvel Studios has tipped its hand for the FF. At the Disney Investor Day presentation, Marvel’s Kevin Feige announced that Jon Watts will direct the Fantastic Four reboot.

No additional casting news or production dates were shared. Watts previously directed Cop Car before helming three Spider-Man MCU movies. Watts is also currently filming that third Spidey film, which doesn’t have a name. But Feige did mention that it will tie-into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The Fantastic Four were Marvel’s premiere heroes in the Silver Age of comics. However, their luck on the big screen hasn’t been great. Roger Corman’s FF film was buried before release, while Tim Story’s two Fantastic Four movies had modest success. But the darker reboot by director Josh Trank failed to connect with audiences in 2015.

Presumably, Watts will begin pre-production on Fantastic Four when he wraps Spider-Man 3. But no dates have been set yet.
