Randall Flagg Recruits Lloyd Henreid in His First Scene From The Stand

In just a few hours, CBS All Access will release the premiere of The Stand. The limited event series is based on the best-selling novel by Stephen King, who also wrote an all-new coda. Briefly, the story features an epic clash between good and evil, with the latter incarnated by the vicious Randall Flagg. And it will be up to actor Alexander Skarsgard to portray the personification of evil on the small screen.

The first scene involving Skarsgard’s Flagg has been revealed, and it looks pretty much as the readers of the book have imagined it.

“It’s a seduction scene,” showrunner Benjamin Cavell said while talking with EW. “And it was very important to us that Flagg was attractive – not just physically attractive, obviously, it’s Alexander Skarsgard, so we’ve got that covered – but we wanted an audience to be able to easily imagine why people would follow him. We didn’t just want the takeaway to be, ‘Anybody who’s vulnerable to falling under the sway of this guy must just be inherently evil.'”

In the video, Flagg meets Nat Wolff’s Lloyd Henreid, a low-level criminal who is in prison after his latest robbery went badly. When the deadly superflu descends upon the prison, he has to find a way to feed himself. That’s when his fellow dead inmate starts looking delicious. And it’s right after he has committed that new atrocity that Flagg and Henreid have a few words. While the video is not embeddable here, you can watch it on the EW website.

The Stand will premiere on CBS All Access on Thursday, Dec. 17.
