Justice League Concept Artist Shares Designs for Apokolips Guards

The recently-released Zack Snyder’s Justice League only briefly showed Darkseid’s personal guard, the Female Furies. However, the Apokolips guards play a much more relevant role in the comics, and it’s unlikely that DC Extended Universe fans will ever see more of them since Warner Bros. opted to put the SndyerVerse aside. Recently, concept artist Jerad S. Marantz took to his Instagram account to reveal the designs for these exceptional warriors.

“Here’s a concept I did for Apokolips guards for Justice League,” he wrote. “This was a really fun idea and I was very proud of the consistent look amongst all of the Apokoliptians. I had a great time on this project working with costume designer Michael Wilkinson and the rest of the team.”

In the comics, these creatures have unnatural strength and longevity. On top of that, they have proved more than once that they are loyal only to Darkseid.

Marantz also shared some concept art for Kilowog, who plays a small part in the movie as well. The member of the Green Lantern Corps pops up in the Knightmare sequence, sacrificing his life in the battle against the regime.

“Here’s an early version of Kilowog. I really like this version. I remember being pretty proud of the proportions and his mass. This is just a render out of Zbrush. I’ll show versions of him rendered out in #Keyshot where I was really able to play with the materials”
